The Imam of Sidna Ali Mosque in Herzliya, Israel is a man of devotion - to his religion, to his role, to his beliefs. Draped prayer beads in hand, he tells me the story of becoming Imam, healing a congregation torn apart by political infighting. He talks of sustaining a peaceful coexistence with local Israeli neighbourhoods. There is generosity of spirit in his demeanor and his words.
His face reflects the burden of his self imposed task, a clarity of purpose, a sense of the impossible, and a quiet fortitude. This complex melange of emotions and realities is what I wanted to capture and portray.
